Have you thought about creating a flow-based GUI, like RapidMiner or Alteryx to use from within Exploratory? I love the power of thinking with R, but I think it would also be really helpful to have a view like this so you can easily break out your analysis into different parts(whether for re-factoring a column, or tidying up variables), and make it really easy to communicate what each part of the flow is trying to accomplish. Let me know your thoughts on this.

Yes, we have been thinking about this and did some early prototype. I can’t promise when, but it will come most likely this year.
