An error appears during operation: 'delete' may not be used with a contentless_delete=1

Problem:

Sometimes, you may encounter an error saying 'delete' may not be used with a contentless_delete=1 during operation. This happens when you downgrade from version 16.4 or later to an earlier version.

Cause:

This is because the search index files used in the project were created by a newer version of Exploratory, which cannot be properly used by the older version, resulting in the error. Your data and projects are not affected.

Solution

[For Windows]

  1. Quit Exploratory.
  2. Delete the following files in the C:\Users\(username)\.exploratory\ folder (ignore any files that do not exist):
    • search_index.db
    • search_index.db-shm
    • search_index.db-wal
    • search_index.db-journal
  3. Start Exploratory and open your project; the search indexes will be regenerated automatically.

[For Mac]

  1. Quit Exploratory.
  2. Delete the following files in /Users/(username)/.exploratory/ (ignore any files that do not exist):
    • search_index.db
    • search_index.db-shm
    • search_index.db-wal
    • search_index.db-journal
  3. Start Exploratory and open your project; the search indexes will be regenerated automatically.
